A charming quilt using a combination of pretty botanical fabric, simple embroidery stitches and antique linens......

...BOTANICUM was created to share Lisa’s enduring affection for creating verdant wreaths, both in her stitching practice and previous floristry career. Each of the 9 blocks has a wreath as its central focus, and each of these wreaths has been created using a different combination of simple stitches. There is a mixture of fabrics used - antique linen sheets which were foraged from antique armoires in the French countryside, alongside the intricately drawn florals produced by the German design house Acufactum. The palette embraces a broad spectrum, the origins of which are inspired by a blooming summer garden.

This block of the month subscription includes 5 live zoom sessions (plus a 6th 'reunion' zoom) with Lisa where she'll give you instructions and tips for each block and overall construction of the quilt. You'll be able to ask questions, share your work and see what other students are making.

When you sign up you'll receive a kit of everything you need to make the quilt top. Prior to the live zoom every month you'll receive a PDF pattern which includes instructions, photos and embroidery images to include in your work.

You'll also have the opportunity to post questions and comments on the exclusive chat and submit photos of your work for show and tell discussions.

  • When do we start? The first zoom will be on Sunday 25th August 2024 at 8am Sydney time. The first Pattern/PDF will be made available on Monday 19th August and you'll receive a welcome information sheet prior to that. If you're starting after these dates, these will all be available to you when you purchase the class.

  • What if I join late and miss the start of the program? You'll have access of everything which has been released so far and recordings of all previous zoom sessions

  • What if I miss a zoom session? Recordings of all zoom sessions will be available to watch at your convenience - Many of our customers watch the recorded sessions because of time difference. You can still send in photos and questions for the zoom if you're watching the recordings.

  • Do I have to finish the project by the end of the subscription? No, because the BOM is being made available through the School of SlowStitching, all material including zoom recordings, PDF patters and newsletters will be available to you indefinately

  • What time will the zoom sessions be? Because we have participants from around the world we have chosen the following time for the live zoom sessions. If we have a large number of participants we may offer several sessions in different time zones, but for now: SYDNEY: Sunday 8am, LOS ANGELES: Saturday 1pm, NEW YORK Saturday 4pm, LONDON: Saturday 9pm. (Time differences will change according to daylight saving, so we'll give you a more up to date time before each zoom)

Your slow stitching guide

Slow stitcher and forager Lisa Mattock

I am lucky to have a very creative Mum who loves all things patchwork, and who instilled in me from an early age the thrill of finding 'treasures' at fetes and garage sales. I spent my early childhood marinating in her eclectic, colorful influence. It was Mum’s enthusiasm and encouragement that first led me to explore my love for textiles - a lifetime addiction to 'reclaimed goodies' has ensued. I have gathered expertise in many creative pursuits as a florist, food stylist, and visual merchandiser, which culminated in owning an upmarket florist and homewares store, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for many years. These experiences, combined with my long-standing passions for vintage fabrics, recycling, and simple stitching made creating my business, called 'Forage', a natural evolution. It’s a place I can share my passion for discovering and collecting fabrics and embellishments from near and far, both reclaimed/vintage and brand new from our favourite quilt stores. Welcome! I look forward to sharing all that inspires and delights me. Lisa, xx
